The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

image

Hi everybody! I hope that you had an awesome week!
So last Monday I said that the last week was stressful but this last
week was crazy!
So last Tuesday I opened up my iPad and it was at the white hello
screen and it told me to slide to set up my iPad. I thought it was
strange but I did it and when I was done I found out that my iPad had
been wiped clean. I called the mission office to see what happened and
they called Apple and told me that either I bumped my iPad just right
to reset it or someone was trying to hack into it and that made it
wiped everything. I was able to get all of my scriptures and stuff
back but all of my pictures from the last nine months are gone. Good
thing I have been keeping a journal!
Then on Thursday we went out to get our bikes and our lock was cut and
Elder Palmer’s brand new bike was gone. We called the cops and gave
them the info but the bike is probably gone. The guy that stole it was
nice enough to leave Elder Palmer his old crapy bike so we still have
bikes but Elder Palmer’s is really bad.
On Friday we did an exchange and I was with Elder Welch for the day.
We started talking to this homeless guy and after a few minutes he
just stops us and says, “I’m not gonna lie to you guys, I did some
speed earlier. I woke up and I didn’t know where I was and this guy
was like, ‘Do you want some speed?’ And I was like, ‘Alright.'” It
reminded me of the movie Hot Rod. It was kind of sad so whatever you
do DON’T DO DRUGS!! They mess with your mind!
So now that I said all the bad stuff let me tell you the good stuff!
We found a new investigator because our Elders Quorum president
invited his friend to learn more about the church. His friend had some
great questions and he wants to start coming to church. He seems
really interested!
Our investigator with a date for July is doing great! He wants to do a
fast this week to help him quit smoking! I’m really excited for him!
He is really pumped to get baptized and he loves elders! I will let
you know how he progresses as time goes on!
So this week was crazy but it a lot of good happened to. It would be
really easy for Elder Palmer and I to just look at the bad and get
depressed but we have made the choice to look at all the good we are
doing and it helps so much! I love my mission and I am so happy to be
serving the Lord.
I love you all! Have a great week!

Back on a Bike!

IMG_0046

Hi everybody! Hope you had a splendid week!
Last week was a little stressful but a lot of good stuff is happening! So the stressful part was that Tuesday morning we got a call from the mission office telling us that we were going to be moving into some apartments in our area and that we had to be in them by Tuesday evening. We spent all day moving and when we got there we got a call telling us that we would be losing our car. For a few days we had to walk for a few days but we finally got Elder Palmer a bike on Friday!  I miss the car but we will have fun on bikes!  Without the car we have been able to talk to a lot more people though.
We were on an exchange and I was with one of the Zone Leaders in Orenco and we got give four copies of the Book of Mormon out to these guys sitting on a bench! They seemed exited to read. We weren’t able to set up a time to see them again but we can talk with them at the MAX station.  On the exchange we also got to teach a lesson to one of our investigator! His name is Brian and he is really exited about the gospel! We got to teach him about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and he agreed with everything we talked about. He is doing great!
The work is still a little slow but we have a few lessons set up this week! I love being able to teach people the gospel! I know that this gospel can bless anyone and everyone if they live the commandments and look to the Savior at all times!
I love you all and I hope that you have a great week!

Great New Area!

IMG_20160511_184304068

Hi everyone! I hope you had an awesome week!
Last week was full of miracles for Elder Palmer and I. Elder Palmer got to give out his first Book of Mormon last week! It was awesome! We were at a service project that some other elders told us about and we started talking to one of the ladies that we were helping. When we were taking a break Elder Palmer and I went out to the car and got a Book of Mormon. When I told him that he was gonna give it to her his eyes about popped out of his head! He did it though and he did a great job! We found out when we gave it to her that she had met with missionaries a long time ago and she had lost her copy. She was really excited to get a new one. We are hoping to do a pass off lesson with the sister in the next couple weeks.
Speaking of which the sister missionaries, Sister Runyon and Sister Cho have been awesome! They gave us eight of their investigators, one of whom even has a baptismal date for July! We’ve been trying to see them and a couple haven’t worked out but the investigator with a date
seems solid! His name is Brian and he is really looking forward to being baptized in a couple months! We are excited to start teaching him!
The Orenco ward his happy to have elders. Everyone we’ve met has wanted to have us over. This will be a great place for Elder Palmer to start out.
Elder Palmer has been doing good so far! He’s a little shy but he is starting to grow out of it. I don’t think he’ll be staying shy for long with me as his companion! 😁 I think he will make a great
missionary!
I’ll leave you with my testimony that I know that this church is true. I know that anyone can find that out by reading the Book of Mormon and praying to Heavenly Father, in the name of Christ to know for themselves. I love you all and I hope that you have a great week!

Mother’s Day, Transfers and TRAINING

Hillsboro

Elder Palmer

Hi everybody! I hope last we was great for all of you!
My week was great! On Sunday we found out that our investigator who needs to get married has set a date to get married and baptized in August! They invited me to come back so I really hope I can make it for both of those!  Elder Hewitt and I also had the chance to go to the Visitor Center at the Portland Temple with him and his family. We found out that his wife actually was at the dedication of the temple back in 1989. The whole family loved it and, because of this, their daughter will probably start taking the lessons soon! The Visitors Center is a great place to help people feel the spirit and recognize that this is Christ’s church.
On Sunday I got the chance to Skype my family and it was awesome!! I love them all so much! It seems like all of them are doing good! I am already looking forward to seeing them on Christmas!
On Saturday, Elder Hewitt and I were waiting to hear about transfers when we heard the phone buzz. I picked it up and saw that it was President Ballard! When I answered he told me that I will be training a new missionary for the next two transfers and that we will be white-washing an area! For the rest of the day Saturday, all day Sunday, and Monday morning I was really exited and really nervous. Monday afternoon I left Elder Hewitt (which was really sad) and I met my son!  His name is Elder Palmer. Elder Palmer is from Tropic, Utah, and he is very excited to be serving a mission for the Lord!  As soon as I met him all of my nerves went away. I know that he is who the Lord wants me to be with. I know that he will be a great missionary. He is already doing great!
Elder Palmer and I are now serving in the Oranco Ward in Hillsboro!  I didn’t know this before we got here but the ward hasn’t had elders in almost 3 years! Luckily the sisters who are here are doing a great job of helping us meet the ward!
I’ll leave you with my testimony that I know that we are children of Heavenly Father. I know that he knows us and he knows exactly what we need to grow. I know that if we do what he asks of us we will be blessed in countless ways.
I love you all and I hope that you have a great week!

Jesus is the Christ!

Hi everybody! I hope you had a good week!
Last week went really well for Elder Hewitt and I! On Saturday we got to do some service for a non-member and we might start teaching him soon! He needed some help pulling up a bunch of blackberry bushes and burning them. We got to start a huge bonfire with all of the dead blackberry bushes! It was awesome! We will hopefully be able to start teaching him in the next week or two.
We weren’t able to teach that family that we found two weeks ago but we will hopefully see them this week. We were able to find two new investigators, though! We got a call from the mission office saying that a former member in our area needed a blessing. When we went over we found out that she is thinking about coming back to church! We also have a good chance of teaching her son and her husband! We hope it will work!
On Sunday I had one of the most, if not the most, spiritual experience of my mission! One of our investigators named Chris has been coming to church for a while now. He wants to get baptized but he needs to get married before that can happen. On Sunday, near the end of fast and testimony meeting, Chris got up and bore his testimony. It was very powerful. He talked about how he has looked into many other churches but he always felt like something was missing until he came to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He said that what he was missing was a knowledge that Jesus is the Christ but through this church he has found that out. It was amazing to hear him testify of this gospel and how it teaches of Jesus Christ.
I know that Jesus is the Christ. We can know that for ourselves by living the gospel of Jesus Christ which means to gain faith in Him, repent of your sins, be baptized by priesthood authority, receive the Holy Ghost and endure to the end. If we follow the commandments that He has given us then we will be able to live with him again.
I love you all and I wish the best for all of you!
Love,
Elder Wilcock
