A Week of Ups and Downs

img_0004

Hi everybody! I hope that you all had a great week!  My week had some great moments and some bad moments. I’ll tell you about them!

Good news: I’m staying with Elder Casey for another transfer! He has been one of my favorite companions! He’s hilarious and knows a ton about the gospel!
Bad news: I’m no longer the district leader. I must have really messed up or made president mad or something cause I was only the DL for a transfer. Oh well! Less responsibility right?

Good news: We had a sweet lesson with an investigator at the Visitor Center on Friday! She really loved it and said that her favorite part was the Joseph Smith video that we watched. It was great to hear that she has a testimony of Joseph Smith now!
Bad news: We are really struggling to find new people to teach. We’ve been trying some new things so hopefully we will find something that works soon.

Good news: At transfers today I got to see a lot of my old friends from other areas. I even got to see Elder Hall! It was a lot of fun!
Bad news: I have none!

Even though this week had some good and bad moments it was still a good week. I’m so glad that I chose to come on a mission. It has been the best choice I’ve ever made. I know that this gospel is true and it is the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that everyone can know that through the power of the Holy Ghost.
I love you all! Have a great week!

Visit from an Apostle!
elderballard
Hi everybody! I hope you had a great week!  Our week was awesome! I’m fine from the “storm.” It wasn’t bad at all anywhere in the mission. We only had one tree blow over. It was pretty disappointing. We were all really looking forward to some huge, crazy storm!
So something really cool that happened this week is we came back home from district meeting to find a package on our door step. It was full of food and helpful stuff. I read the note that was on it and I found out that it was from Elder and Sister Vincent from the Milwaukie Ward! It was so sweet of them! I love them to death!
The highlight of the week was the fact that we got to have a meeting with Elder Ballard! It was great to see him! This was my second time hearing from him in person. All the things he said were inspiring but my favorite thing was the that he told us to remember Gethsemane.  He told us to always remember the atonement. It was really powerful to hear an apostle bare his testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was something I will never forget.
I may not be an apostle but I do have a testimony that Jesus is the Christ. I know that he lives and he loves each of us. I know that we can feel of his love as we turn to him. We can then show Him that we love Him by following His commandments. I promise that if we follow the path that Jesus Christ has set before us we will find peace.
I love you all! Have a great week!

Come to Know Yourself
medium_diverging_paths
Hi everybody! I hope you all had an awesome week!  My week was great! Elder Casey and I had some great lessons. We had a few nights were we had to go on splits because we had multiple lessons!  One thing that we have been struggling with is finding new people to teach. President Ballard told the mission a few weeks ago that we will be doing a No Knock November; meaning that we won’t be tracting at all in the month of November. Elder Casey and I have been trying to cut back on our tracting and using the members to find more so we can be ready for next month. It will be interesting to see how November goes…
So I made an interesting comparison this morning and I figured that I’d tell you about it. For the last seven or eight years I’ve been toying around with the idea of joining the military after my mission to help me pay for college. About nine months ago I started praying about it for the first time in a few years. I got the a feeling that I should focus on my mission right now and worry about that further down the road. I also felt like I should ask other people about it. The responses that I’ve gotten have been very interesting.  Most of the people who have served in the military highly recommend it to help pay for college. They talk about how much it helped them grow and other things it did for them. While most of the people who haven’t served in the military that I’ve asked about it tell me not to go. They say things that they have heard online or things that they assume to be true.
It has made me think about how people do that with the gospel. If you talk to a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints they will tell you how true the gospel is. They’ll tell you how much it blesses them and their family. They’ll talk about a testimony of the Book of Mormon and of living prophets. They’ll talk about how they know that Jesus is the Christ and how He blesses them.  However if you talk to a nonmember they’ll tell you rumors that they have heard or something that they read online.
At the end of the day we have to choose for ourselves if the gospel is true. We have to listen to what the Spirit teaches us, not the opinions of others.  I have discovered for myself that this gospel is the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that anyone can if they will read the Book of Mormon with an open heart and faith in Christ. Then pray to know if it is true.
I love you all and I hope you have a great week!

General Conference was Awesome!!
123_1
Hi everybody! I hope that you had an awesome week!  My week was amazing! I love General Conference! It was such a blessing to be able to hear from the apostles and the Lord’s prophet, Thomas S. Monson.  I’m so grateful for all of the people who work together to make conference happen every six months. In my email this week I’ll be going over some of the things that really stood out to me in General Conference.
First of all, and probably because I’m a missionary, I loved Dallin H. Oaks’ talk on missionary work! He gave some great ways for everyone to be a missionary. I know that it’s been said a lot but missionary work is most effective when members are involved in the process. If you haven’t listened to this talk yet I highly recommend it! Everyone can be a missionary!
Another talk that stood out to me was the talk by D. Todd Christofferson. Many of us have justified our sinful actions by saying that God loves us and He will always love us. Yes, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ do love us but they can not look upon sin with any degree of allowance. We have to chose to live the laws that are set before us if we want to live with Heavenly Father again. Remember that the Atonement of Jesus Christ can relieve us of these sins but we have to repent in order for that to happen. God loves us enough to give us repentance.
The last talk that I wanted to talk about was by M. Russel Ballard. He talked about how many people are leaving the church for many different reasons but they shouldn’t be. We should never leave the Savior. We need to stay strong and look the Jesus Christ for our strength. He will never leave us so we should never leave Him. This is His gospel and if we chose to endure to the end, we will find peace.
I loved all of the talks given. If you haven’t been able to read or listen to all of them you should do that this week. I know that the men and women who spoke to us were inspired by God to say what they said. If we will listen to their words we will know the Lords will for us.
I love you all! Have a great week!

Conference is Coming Up!
1975163_691380370920873_1541580703_n
Hi everybody! I hope your week went well!  My week was great! Elder Casey and I have been working hard and having some great lessons! We will hopefully be setting some baptismal dates this week!
Here’s a cool story from last week! We had a referral come to us on Friday from some other missionaries. We knew that they lived in an apartment complex near us but we weren’t sure which one. So we just picked one and went with it. We knocked on the door and realized that we knocked on the wrong door. We started talking to the lady who answered the door and we found out that she had talked to missionaries at the store earlier that week! We asked if we could came back and talk to her more and she said yes! She took a Book of Mormon and we are going back this week! It was a sweet miracle!
I can’t believe that it’s already time for General Conference again! I’m so excited to be able to hear from prophets, seers, and revelators! We’re so blessed to have these amazing men and women who are called of God speak to us twice a year!  I know that a lot of people say this but as we prepare for conference we should have questions that we are looking to get answered. I’ve learned that when I have questions going into conference they are always answered. It may not even be because of what someone says. General Conference always invites the Spirit so our answers may come through prompting from the Holy Ghost.  Another thing that helps me get more out of Conference is writing things down. It helps me remember what the talks were about and I can go back and read my thoughts later on.   I promise that if you will remember to go in to Conference with questions and take notes as you listen, you will be able to take away many lessons from this General Conference.
I love you all! Have a great week!
