Lets #LighttheWorld!

lighttheworld

Hi everybody! I hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving!  Elder Casey and I had a good day! It rained like crazy though! We walked a few blocks to dinner and by the time we got there we were soaked! The family was really cool and the food was really good so it was worth it! They did end up deep frying the two turkeys and they tasted amazing! They also cooked really fast which was nice.
So like I predicted last week we didn’t have a ton of lessons which made the week long. Lots of walking around in the rain trying to talk to people. I’m glad I’m with Elder Casey right now because he has a great sense of humor and it helps keep things light.

One of the things that happened last week is we talked to a dude who was sloshed out of his mind! We offered him a pass along card and he took it but then got mad that we were handing out cards. He talked about how there are crazy people all over the place and they would love to mess with some missionaries. First of all, it was only 5:30. Second, anyone who would attack missionaries for no reason is on something and probably wouldn’t be in the best position to fight two twenty year old guys. Third, Aloha isn’t nearly as sketchy as other areas in this mission. We made all these points and more and when he realized that we were right he just swore a lot and walked off. Always fun taking to the inebriated.
On a happier note it’s almost Christmas!! I can’t wait! For those who haven’t heard the Church has put out the new Christmas video and campaign, #LighttheWorld. They will be counting down to Christmas by using different videos to advertise different kinds of service everyday until the holiday. It’s starts in December 1st and I would invite all of you to go to Mormon.org and see what you can do this December to share the Light of Christ with those around you!\
I love you all and hope you have a great week!

I Love the Plan of Salvation!

350px-plan_of_salvation

Hi everybody! I hope that your week was super awesome!  So I’m so excited for Thanksgiving this week! Elder Casey and I will be eating with an awesome Italian family in the ward and they are making THREE TURKEYS!!! 🦃🦃🦃 They said that they will deep fry two of them and do one in the oven! I can’t wait! Don’t be surprised if in my pictures next week I have about seven chins!
Most of the lessons that we had set up from last week until Thanksgiving have canceled until December. These next few weeks may be a little sparse when it comes to teaching but I have faith that we will find something productive to do during that time!
Elder Casey and I had a really great lesson with a lady we’re teaching named Yvonne. She’s a sweet old lady who we do service for and she makes us cookies! We had one of the old ladies in the ward come with us and they became best friends. I’m glad we brought the right member
with us. Anyway we taught the restoration and it went really well. She’s starting to read the Book of Mormon and is really excited to learn about the plan of salvation next time. She also really wants to go to the temple visitor center soon! I love how excited people get when they hear the plan of salvation! Most people have no idea that we lived with out Heavenly Father before this life! They also have a twisted view of why they have bodies and why they are here in the first place. And they don’t know what will happen to them after this life. Lately, when I’ve thought about the plan of salvation, I’ve thought about President Uchtdorf’s talk from this last conference when we spoke about how his friends would listen to him more when we spoke about God’s great plan of happiness. People want to have the great questions of the soul answered and they can have them answered when we teach them the plan of salvation using the Holy Scriptures. I think that it is also important to remind those we talk to that this plan could not come to pass without the Atonement of Jesus Christ. His sacrifice and victory of death and sin is what makes it possible for us to be forgive and live with God again.
I know that the plan of happiness is here for each of us. God’s love is shown by the fact that He has a plan for us. It was established for our eternal happiness. I love you all and hope that you have a great Thanksgiving!

Happy Birthday to ME!

img_0046-1

Hi everybody! I hope that you had a great week!  Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes! I had a really great birthday! We signed up for some service for next week at a place called Imagine Possibilities. It should be fun! We’re going to be hanging out with people who have special needs. I’m really excited! Then we did weekly planning which is never really fun but it went fast. We went and did some finding them we went to dinner. The family that was feeding us asked my mom what I liked so they gave me a bunch of stuff that I love! I was also given a blacker and a stuffed lamb from a recent convert and her kids. It’s was an awesome Birthday!
So I’m sure that many of you have heard about this but there have been some crazy riots in Downtown Portland because of the election. It’s so ridiculous. Because of all of these dumb people we can’t go downtown for the next few weeks which sucks because we were planning to go downtown today. Curse these people! (Read in a Clark voice if you know who that is).
Something bad that happened this week is we had to drop over half of our investigators (so like three people but still). It’s really sad because I love all of these people and I pray that they will someday except the gospel. We now have a chance to spend more time finding people who are ready though! Doing No Knock November hasn’t been very successful yet but I’m sure that we will start finding more people soon! The Lord has promised that He will hasten His work. I know that He is. I know that it is our job to work our hardest though. We have been given so many ways to share the gospel with those near and far. We need to make sure that each of us are doing all we can to share the great message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.  I love you all and I hope you have a great day!

Happy Election Day!

img_0007

Hi everybody!  I hope you had a great week!  We found a new investigator! She’s a lady that we talked to a few  weeks ago. We went to help her clean her yard and we offered her a Book of Mormon. She’s already Christian and is willing to learn more about Christ.  I’m really glad that we found her because with this whole No Knock November it has be really hard to find people. The ward I’m in is really funny and lovable but they don’t want to do actual missionary work. When we ask them about what they have been doing missionary wise recently almost always they talk about how they are trying to be an example and then they expect people to come to them with questions. Your friends may ask you a question but most of these experiences
won’t lead to anything unless they involve some form of invitation. Even simple invitations like inviting someone to check out Mormon.org are better then nothing and will bring more success.
So tomorrow is Election Day and a lot of people are freaking out. I don’t blame them. Both candidates we have are terrible choices for president of the United States. However, it is a great comfort to me to have the gospel in my life. I know that no matter how bad things get I have a Father in Heaven who loves me. I know that He has a plan and no one can stop that plan from coming to pass. I’m so grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ! Living by it brings so much peace! Who knows, maybe all of this craziness will cause some folks to start looking for more in their lives!
I love you all and I hope you have a great week!

Happy Halloween!

c018984a-67d9-4166-9d41-905965ef301d

Hi everybody! I hope that you all had a great week!  Happy Halloween to everyone! Enjoy doing whatever adults do on Halloween!
Last week was a pretty good week. Elder Casey and I are making some great progress with one of our investigators! She’s 10 and her grandpa is a member. We’ve been teaching her since we got here and haven’t made much progress but the other day she told us that she has a
testimony of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon! She still likes her other church, which makes sense because they only do a 20 minute sermon and then they eat food, but she has started attending our church on a regular basis! We have a really good lesson planned for
this week so I’ll let you know how it goes.
We also found 3 new people last week! One of them is Buddhist and the other two are Christian. All three of them are women. Actually all of our investigators are women. It’s really weird! Sometimes it’s hard to be as handsome and charming as Elder Casey and I are 😎😎 One thing that I wanted to bare my testimony on is the fact that there is a God. Elder Casey and I had a 90 minute conversation with an atheist guy yesterday. He brought up some good points but it never made me doubt my testimony. I have had far to many experiences with the Savior to doubt that He lives and loves me. I have had too many prayers answered to believe that it’s just a  coincidence. I’ve seen too many people’s lives change for the better to think that this gospel is false.
I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live. I feel Their love everyday for me and for the people that I serve. I know that this is the gospel of Jesus Christ and that knowledge will never change. I love you all and I hope you have a great week!

Elder Wilcock
