Yay for not getting strep throat last week!!

Hi everybody! I hope that you all had an awesome week!  Last week was really slow but we had some good stuff happen! We had an awesome miracle with one of our investigators we found a few weeks ago! He was the one we found because we knocked on the last door.  Well, when we went back for our lesson a couple weeks ago he didn’t answer. That, along with the fact that we didn’t have his phone number, because he just asked us for our card when we talked to him,
made us think that we probably wouldn’t be seeing him again. A few days ago we got a text from David out of nowhere where he apologized for missing our lesson and said that he would love to meet with us next week!! It was awesome to know that he is still interested in learning more and is planning on meeting with us again!
Here’s something funny that happened on Sunday. Elder Fisher and I were sitting in third hour and the man behind us fell asleep. We were giggling but it got really bad when someone started saying the prayer! The guy started snoring so loud! I was doing a good job of holding it in until I made the fatal mistake of looking to see if Elder Fisher was laughing. He was literally biting his tongue!! At that point we both started making these weird choking laughing sounds. The best part was at the end of the prayer all of the amens woke the dude up and he said amen really loud and a few seconds after everyone! Elder Fisher and I had to step outside and laugh for about five minutes! Not my finest moment as a missionary…😬
So remember how I said the week was slow? Here’s why. On Tuesday Elder Fisher felt like garbage all day. We ended up going home early and he slept from 4:00 on Tuesday to 8:00 the next morning. We had our zone leaders take us to the doctor and it turns out that he has strep
throat… the poor guy slept all day when we got back from the doctor. I still haven’t gotten sick!! I was trying to figure out what I should do and guess what? I decided to clean the apartment!! Can you believe it mom and dad?! I didn’t have to be told or nothin’! While I was cleaning I started listening to Jesus the Christ on my iPad. I had no idea how good that book is! I don’t understand half of the words James E. Talmage uses but that’s why we have the dictionary app! It was awesome to hear in great detail about the baptism of the Savior. Brothers and sisters this gospel makes sense! The doctrine of the Godhead is shown clearly in the story of Jesus Christ’s baptism! I know that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost all love us
and what what’s best for us. If we listen to the promptings of the Holy Ghost we will know Heavenly Father’s will for us. We can then pray for guidance in the name of Jesus Christ because He is our mediator. It’s amazing to me how the three members of the Godhead work
together perfectly to bring us happiness.
I love you all! Have a great week!

Elder Ballard and Baptisms!

Hi everybody! I hope that you all had an awesome week!  Elder Fisher and I were able to find three new people to start teaching! It was cool because we found all three of them by staying in
the area of a lesson that canceled. I guess we were supposed to go there to find these people! We are really pumped to teach them this week!
On Saturday I was able to back to my last area and see two of my investigators, Kenny and Lolana, get baptized! It was the highlight of my week! I taught Lolana for 6 months so it was so rewarding to see her make that covenant a couple days ago! Both Kenny and Lolana after the baptism seemed so happy and excited to get the gift of the Holy Ghost! I’m so excited for them and hope that I can stay in touch with them to see how this helps them throughout their lives!
Another awesome thing that happened was Elder Ballard came to the mission! This was my third time meeting him and it was awesome! He talked about being sure that we are working hard and staying positive.  He also talked about how when he doesn’t feel like doing something he pulls a picture out of his pocket of the Savior and remembers Gethsemane. I love that. I can’t wait to use the things he taught us for the rest of my mission!
I know that Elder Ballard is truly and apostle of the Lord. I know that if we listen to the council of the twelve we will be our happiest and find the most joy possible. I know that Jesus is the Christ and that he really did pay for our sins. If we remember that the things we go through won’t seem that hard.
I love you all! Have a great week!

Fourth Floor, Last Door

Hi everybody! I hope you had an awesome week!  Things are going well in Beaverton! It’s been raining a ton but we had a couple of nice days last week! It was awesome to be able to bike
around without all of the rain gear! It looks like this week is rain everyday though… Yaaaaay…
We had some sweet miracles happen last week! After 13 weeks this ward had an investigator at church! Yay! She is really smart! She already has three masters degrees and is going to BYU this fall to get another one! She seems excited to learn about the gospel though and is very
respective to what we teach!
Another cool thing that happened happened when we went to see a less active member. They weren’t home so we decided to knock some doors in the apartment complex we were in. We found an investigator at the second apartment! His family has been taught by Spanish missionaries before but he said he would like to be taught in English. He seems like a nice guy and it will be awesome to teach him!
This one was my favorite! We were tracting in a different complex. It was pouring rain and no one was even opening their doors. We couldn’t decide if we should leave and try somewhere else or stay. As we were talking President Uchtdorf’s talk, “Fourth Flour, Last Door” came to
our minds. We decided to stay. The next door we knocked on was the first time anyone opened the door! We started talking to the guy and he said that it was crazy that we came by that day. We asked why and he said that he had been raised Christian but had been an atheist for the last few years. Two days before we came he decided that he still did believe in God! How cool is that?! He told us he had been reading the book of Luke for three hours before we came! We invited him to read 3 Nephi 11 and see if the doctrine matched what the Bible said. He was willing and seems excited to learn about the Book of Mormon! It’s crazy to think that if we had gotten discouraged and left early we never would have found that man. We would have felt like the whole thing was a waste of time. I’m glad that the Holy Ghost inspired us to stay and that we both listened.

Let’s each try to listen to the still small voice when it speaks to us. I know that if we do we will always stay on the path that leads back to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
I love you all! Have a great week!

Answer to Prayer!

Hi everybody! I hope you had an awesome week!  Things are going good in the Beaverton Ward! Last week was a little slow with finding but the first week usually is.  Elder Fisher is great! He’s from Chandler, Arizona, and has been out for three months.  It’s nice because he really wants to work which is the best thing to have in a companion! This should be a good transfer!
We found an awesome new investigator at the beginning of the week! The wife is a less active member and the husband isn’t a member but is willing to learn more! They have a little girl so I’m really excited to talk about eternal families!
Something crazy happened this morning. It snowed!! It was nuts! I’m so ready for springtime! We need to stop with all this crazy weather!!
Last night we went to visit a potential investigator. It turns out that her brother passed away recently and she was really depressed. We told her that we had been praying about where to go that night and we felt inspired to visit her. She got so happy to hear that we were inspired to visit her! We then sang some songs with her to lift her spirits. She found out that I play guitar and insisted on giving me hers so I could learn hymns and come sing them with her! It was
awesome but I feel kind of bad about it so I’m gonna offer it back when we go sing hymns with her. Still cool though to be an answer to her prayers!
I know that God hears our prayers and always answers them. It may not be the way we expect or want but He will always respond.
I love you guys! Have a great week!

Beaverton Ward, Beaverton Stake, Beaverton Oregon

Hi everybody! I hope you had an awesome week!  My week was exciting and sad all at the same time. I’m getting transferred to the Beaverton ward! I’m only going a few blocks up the road but I’ll be in a new stake now. It’s always exciting to go to a new area but I’m gonna miss a lot of the people in the Aloha 1st ward! At least I’ll get to come back in a couple weeks for Lolanas’ baptism!

Speaking of baptism we set another date! We started teaching a guy named Kenny and he wants to be baptized on March 18th!! I’m bummed that I’m leaving right as it happened but it gives me another reason to come back!
So something crazy happened today! We got passes from a member to go to the Nike employee store today. While we were there we got to meet the actor Corbin Allred! For those who don’t know who that is he was in the movies Saints and Soldiers, The Saratov Approach, and he even plays Satan in a certain film 😉 I can now say that I’ve met Satan! Lol! He was really nice and it was cool to see him with his family!
On Saturday Elder Rockwood and I got to go to the baptism of a woman we taught! She started attending our ward with her husband but we found out they lived in a different ward so we had to refer her to those missionaries. It was awesome to see her get baptized though! The spirit was so strong and you could feel the love that Heavenly Father has for her!
So my new companion is Elder Fisher. I’ve never met him but he sounds like a nice guy. He’s from Arizona and has only been out for three months so I’ll be is second companion. I’ll be sure to let you know how things are with him!
Well I love you all and I hope you can all have a great week!

Elder Wilcock
